I would like to introduce you to some talented local musicians this time round, Adelaide band Amberfade. They were the first support act to play at Enigma the night I went to see Juke Kartel. Due to circumstances outside of my control I didn’t see all of their set but I liked what I saw, and I spoke to hubby and my trusted sister-in-law afterwards about their opinions and it was a good set, definitely talented musicians. They are Adelaide boys so I will be making an effort to catch a show round town in the coming months.
I hope you enjoy getting to know Amberfade lead singer Chris Buccini as much as I have.
Can you tell us a little about how the band got the name Amberfade?
Amberfade basically comes from the idea that when one day ends another begins and I guess we reference it with the setting of the sun. Everyday of our lives we have our own hurdles in front of us and even when we feel our worst, its important to know that there is always tomorrow.
How long have you been together as a band?
This current line up has been together for around 16 months or so! Previous to Jackson joining, the other three of us had been together for a couple of years with other members.
Can you tell us a little about how you all met and formed the band?
Well, Steve (guitarist) is my younger brother. Steve & Gerard (Bass) were in the same year in high school, and Jackson (Drums) 2 years under them. So, those boys were always pretty close…..and I guess myself by extension!! Always had a few extra people around our house that’s for sure!!
The first time I met Jackson has something to do with a bottle of Whiskey and a backyard bonfire incident…….don’t remember too much about that one!! (laughs) We have all become so close that we do consider ourselves our own little family, and we have the best time doing what we love together.
What can you tell us about your style?
Next question please……Just kidding! Always the toughest question to answer, we have SO many influences, both individually and collectively, but that would take hours to rattle all of them off, but….I’ll give you a couple anyway, Foo Fighters, Incubus and U2. We are definitely a rock band fused with bits of Pop music. We love to try and write songs that keep you humming and dancing all night!!
We try to create a diverse blend of music that we hope appeals to a broad audience…….that’s what is great about being an original band I suppose, the chance to create something completely unique and be recognized for your own sound and material.
Do you write all the songs? Where does the inspiration come from?
It really is a group effort, we all have something to contribute to each of the songs and it helps when your drummer can play guitar & sing as well!!! As far as inspiration for lyrics, it can come from anything around me, from relationships to thoughts about the world that we live in (or hope to live in!!). Sometimes its sad and sometimes its happy, but I think that’s another great thing about music, it can take you through a range of emotions and you can remember chapters of your life and the music that goes with it!!
I heard a whisper that there might be a musical release coming soon. What can you tell us about that?
Very close to being ready!! We went to the Gold Coast to record our new EP at Loose Stones Studios, with Tyse Lee. Great experience and we will be releasing a single in the next month (hopefully!!) and the EP by March…….fingers crossed!!! It is four songs that we hope will really show the diversity of this band and how much we have grown as artists
My introduction to you was as support for Juke Kartel, who else have you opened for and who was your favourite?
Well….this is the second time we have played with Juke Kartel now, and not just cause they were just here, but they would have to be one of our favorites!! Not only a great band to watch live, but amongst some of the most genuine guys we’ve met……definitely no egos there. Great to see them and hang out with them again afterwards!!! We have opened for bands like Freestate (VIC), another of our favorites as well…..great guys again…..and I think we have done about 5 with them now and hopefully many more to come! Also, Famous By Association (VIC) (Now called FANGS I think??) and played at Scorcherfest with Trial Kennedy (Also from VIC)
Where is the furthest from home you have been to play a show?
We haven’t toured heaps (that is all about to change in 2012 though!) So, Melbourne! But it was great, we were there for a week and played at the Espy on a Sunday afternoon in Summer. It is the best atmosphere with a full house over three stages and everyone is so laid back and just there to hear music and have a good time. You can feel the sense of history as soon as you walk in there. It really is the home of live music.
What has been the most exciting moment of your music career to date?
I would have to say the experience of recording for 2 weeks up on the Gold Coast! We learnt so much while being up there. We owe a lot to Tyse for definitely bringing out the best in us (by whatever means necessary!) and helping us to create a great bunch of songs for everyone to enjoy. We met some amazing people and bands while we were up there including a couple of the boys from Nine Sons of Dan, who are starting to do some huge things. Plus it doesn’t hurt living on the Gold Coast for 2 weeks with your best friends doing what you love.
Where are we going to be able to get copies of the EP and single when it is released?
Hoping the first single will be ready in the next month and the EP by late March. Both will be available on iTunes and at a couple of stores as well. Of course, we will have them available to buy at our shows, with a whole bunch of Amberfade goodies coming soon.
Are there any shows coming up that we can catch you in?
Sure are, we are going to be playing 2 shows at the end of February. We will be at the Duke in Adelaide on Friday 24th and backing up for Saturday 25th at the Jetty Bar at Glenelg. Haven’t played at the Duke before so that will be a fun night and always love playing at the Jetty Bar, good, fun crowd there. There will be more shows coming soon as well, and they will be up on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/amberfade and our website www.amberfadeofficial.com as soon as we confirm all the details.
What’s next for Amberfade?
Well, we have lots on the go at the moment, and a lot in the pipeline, which is great. We are focused on releasing these songs and planning the EP release party. We are always writing new material, so we are hoping to do some more recording soon, as well as some touring! We want to get to as many places and meet as many people as we can this year and beyond (and not limited to Australia!!). We have been lucky through the powers of social media to have a lot of people connect with us and support us, and we would love to get out and see all of you as soon as we can!!
Thanks for your time Chris, it’s been great chatting to you!
Thank you, been an absolute pleasure!
I devour books, vampires and supernatural creatures are my genre of choice but over the past couple of years, I have broadened my horizons considerably. In a nutshell – I love to write! I love interacting with a diverse range of artists to bring you interviews. Perhaps we were perfect before – I LOVE WORDS!
