Placebo sign to Universal Music Worldwide

Alternative rock trio Placebo have signed with Universal Music, they plan to release an EP of brand new tracks in October and follow it up with a new studio album in 2013. The deal also includes the entire physical Placebo back catalogue, which they now own following the end of their EMI contract in 2007.

The new EP has been titled ‘B3’ and it contains 5 new tracks, following up 2009’s ‘Battle for the Sun’. Most of the 2 years following that release were spent on a global arena tour that covered 54 countries. Currently Placebo is on the festival circuit, until late September they will play in 19 cities in 13 countries.

The band’s self-titled debut in 1996 gained gold certification in the UK and platinum in France, to date they have recorded six studio albums and sold 12 million records worldwide.
