Jonathan Boulet’s debut album was self-titled, it was also recorded, played, sung, produced and mixed by a 21 year old in his parent’s garage. I think that’s a pretty impressive feat for the young Sydneysider.
For his new album he has remained in control of the project but he has let people in with him and the album will be released on Modular Recordings on the 8th of June.
The new album has been described as:
a soaring burst of melody and harmony, built on the blocks of primal, incessant rhythm. It features choruses of chanting choirs, speedball drum lines and junkyards of melodic percussion. It’s a dense, cathartic record of unbridled energy and heavy pop.
I headed over to Modular and checked out a sneak peek of Trounce from the new album and it certainly fits that description.
This isn’t quiet relaxing music really, it would be good belting out in a social setting I think, as long as there wasn’t too much conversation happening because you would want it cranking.
The new album is titled “We Keep The Beat, Found The Sound, See The Need, Start The Heart” and from what I heard of Trounce I think it’s really going to fit the album, but that wasn’t what I was going to say.
This album is a step forward from the debut album, it’s the next step in Boulet’s career and it’s the next level in showcasing his talent. Keep an eye out for this one in June, you won’t be disappointed.
