Netflix has made binge watching easy, but at times the catalogue can be overwhelming. Here is a list of my current Top 10 TV shows to watch on Netflix Australia. In no particular order.

1. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Kimmy is an upbeat girl who is out of touch with the world after being trapped underground as part of a doomsday cult. After being rescued, the clueless Kimmy has to start over in the chaos of New York City. This is a comedy, and one for the girls who want a little light heartedness on their screen. It can be a bit cringe-worthy at times, but that’s all part of the fun.
2. Frequency
Frequency is sci-fi crossed with police drama. Raimy is a detective who discovers she can talk to her dead father via radio – and change the past to recreate the future. I know how that sounds, but it is surprisingly addictive and well made.
3. House of Cards
House of Cards is about to have its fifth season, and there is little wonder this intelligent series has been so popular. Kevin Spacey is the key to the success of House of Cards, as a two faced congressman who will stop at nothing to reach the top job. Paired with the interesting relationship with his wife, you wouldn’t want to stand in the way of this political power couple.
4. Black Mirror
Black Mirror. Wow. This probably should be number one if I was actually doing it in a particular order. This show will blow your mind with the way it shows the dark side of technology. While set in the future, with the way we are progressing it is believable. Each episode is a different story, and effectively a mini movie.
5. Orange is the New Black
This show is the reason I subscribed to Netflix in the first place, and while the first season was definitely the best – it is still worth a watch. Piper is a good girl thrown into a women’s jail packed with other interesting characters. The series shows Piper, the staff and the other inmates as they face the daily life of prison.
6. Daredevil
There are a few superhero offerings in the Netflix Australia catalogue, (including Jessica Jones and Luke Cage) but my pick is Daredevil. Matt Murdock is a blind lawyer by day, crime fighting action figure by night. Vincent D’Onofrio from Law and Order: Criminal Intent plays the bad guy – with a different look than what we were used to back in the day.
7. Stranger Things
I didn’t think I would like this one, but my inner geek loved the sci-fi series. With a supernatural theme, a missing child and Winona Ryder as one of the stars – this show is one to binge watch. Oh, did I mention – this is set in the 80’s. Cool. Watching it with a sci-fi fan meant an hour long conversation afterwards where I tried to wrap my head around the idea of other dimensions.
8. Narcos
Narcos is based on the story of Pablo Escobar, and while we have seen a lot of him lately – this is one of the best made accounts. A pretty powerful tale which you would think is made up (but based on reality), and it shows how powerful the Columbian drug trade is. A word of warning, be prepared for subtitles. Still worth it.
9. Glitch
Glitch is a little slow to get started, but this Australian drama steadily improves and season 1 ends with a twist. With an all Australian cast and based in a country town of Yoorana, the scenery is something many of us can relate to. A supernatural drama with the dead rising from the ashes – but thankfully not a zombie in sight.
10. Shameless
Shameless is up to its 7th season, and while Netflix isn’t up to date, it is a good place to start watching. Frank is an alcoholic and father of six, and the kids are left to fend for themselves. The family is decidedly dysfunctional and their antics will have you raising one eyebrow while laughing out loud.
