There seems to be a huge variety of American police shows on offer, and all over the small screen. Now there is also an 8 part series for BBC One called CUFFS, it’s currently screening on the ABC in Australia.
If you would like a break from American cop shows but want to keep your men in uniform then we have a treat for you. 5 of our lucky readers will win a copy of the CUFFS series on DVD. Read on to hear about the show and how to enter.
CUFFS is a fresh, authentic, contemporary 8-part cop show for BBC One (currently airing on ABC here in Australia to fantastic numbers). A visceral drama that takes the audience on an exhilarating ride through the challenges of frontline policing in the vibrant and alternative seaside city of Brighton. It has been referred to as ‘The Bill by the sea’.
Adrenalized and propulsive, the show is packed full of dramatic incidents and colourful characters. Every episode sees our cops put their lives on the line to protect the public; from a booby trapped cannabis farm in a suburban semi, to an elderly farmer’s wife with a shotgun – this is a job fraught with danger. But the high stakes are also matched with more absurd altercations such as a middle-class dog-napping and naturists fighting on the beach.

My favourite Cop show of all time is an oldie but a goodie ‘Hearbeat’,I’ve seen heaps of reruns but still enjoy it.
I lost the “r” I meant “Heartbeat”.
What can I say- I just love police shows
The Mentalist would be one of my favourites as it has that extra psychic twist to it along with the traditional police investigation methods.
POLICE WOMAN..Angie Dickinson was so cool, so hot and so good at her job.
LAW & ORDER is a great favourite. Fabulous viewing to not only catch the criminals but prosecute as well.
“Dexter” – hey, most of the characters are cops! I like this because the central character, Dexter, is so unusual – you should loathe him, but for most of the series you really don’t. And around him is a really diverse cast of cops, many of whom are struggling with realistic problems (hopefully Dexter’s aren’t that real). It’s really well written, combining the standard tropes of police shows with a wonderfully black humor and an unusual angle. And so completely different to the books; it really is its’ own beast.
Dexter – just loved the way he cleaned up society from the middle of the cop-shop!
Love “Silent Witness”but I must admit after experiencing Cuffs its jumped to my number 1 spot. So honest with great modern day topics
I loved watching The Bill and Heartbeat. I loved the scenery in Heartbeat and the characters were fun. Also, neither of these two shows are gory! 🙂
I am a cop show tragic I love them all it started with my youth with Cop Shop and homicide and continues through too today with a love of everything from Criminal minds to Sherlock.
Blue Heelers, I loved the show and would tune in weekly. Although I could never understand how the small town of Mount Thomas had such a high crime rate!
Love the blacklist absolutely amazing show. Watching it right now
Love Blue Bloods but then who wouldn’t with Tom Selleck as a main star & great storylines.
Criminal Minds. It’s actually as compelling as it is creepy at times, but I love how well the team compliment each other’s skills and divulge the secrets of psychopaths
I really loved Happy Valley which starred Sarah Lancashire and a fantastic cast, with a great storyline and script.Hope they do another series.
WATER RATS, it became short lived dream to become Police Officer. Just still trying to just conquer seas sickness at thought of stepping aboard boats.
I love Blue Heelers, it’s great Aussie tv show and it had so much action.
My favourite was “Law & Order”…. I loved the stories, the drama, and the spunky actors!!
Wonderfully wicked, compellingly complex… Underworld’s UNDERBELLY – addictive viewing
An oldie, but a goodie was Colombo – gee that was great, shown over several series we enjoyed them all.
DCI Banks – great stories and actors ,,,
