Mid November will see Melbourne’s Whitaker head out for a run of East Coast Tour Dates around the November 22nd independent release of their five-track EP ‘Wichita’.
The main aim of Whitaker as they made Wichita was that the vibe was the most important element, so a lot of what you hear on the EP was recorded in old halls and awesome sounding spaces around Melbourne. ‘Wichita’, the title track, filled the Abbotsford Convent’s auditorium with a choir of the band’s friends and two brothers playing brass – made for some pretty fabulous vibes.
Wichita was produced by Jono Steer, a good friend of the band, also known for his work with Hayden Calnin, Gypsy & The Cat and Ainslie Wills. July 2013 saw work begin on Wichita, which is the embodiment of the Whitakers sound. It’s joyous, thoughtful, raw, intense and patient. The band made this EP under the bands own steam and they believe it to be their best work yet, as well as a sign of things to come.
Whitaker has existed in many forms over almost a decade, and with many names. The core of the band is formed by Ryan Meeking, Brett Scapin and Simon Rabl, all musicians raised on the vibrant Melbourne music scene.
