User Review: Mr Selfridge Series 4

RLJ Entertainment have recently released the fourth and final series of Mr Selfridge on DVD in a 3 disc set.

The series stars Jeremy Piven, Tom Goodman-Hill, Amanda Abbington and Katherine Kelly. The series was created by Andrew Davies and is based on Shopping, Seduction & Mr Selfridge by Lindy Woodhead.

Nine years have passed and Harry Selfridge is at the pinnacle of his wealth and celebrity and enjoying the frenzy of the roaring 20s. But in this buzzing, fast-evolving world, Harry is splashing his cash in an unprecedented, dangerous way. As he parties and gambles with stage stars, the Dolly Sisters, and pursues risky new business ventures, the trials and tribulations of our other much loved characters, and a handful of new comers, also unfold.

Lady Mae returns to London to rebuild her life whilst Mardle and Grove thrash out their differences, and Kitty and Frank embark on the biggest challenge to their relationship yet. This final series chronicles Harry’s epic rollercoaster ride as he begins to lose grip on his empire, alongside the fortunes of all those whose lives he has touched.

Thanks to RLJ Entertainment we were able to get a copy of the DVD to five of our Beauty and Lace Club members to review. I look forward to hearing what they think in the comments below.

  1. I just couldn’t get enough of Mr Selfridge! The roaring 20s what a fantastic time to be alive! After watching season 4 I want to go to England and see the store, and the clock that was unveiled in the show and it still standing today. Being a seamstress myself season 4 was fabulous,as selfridges started there ready to wear collection. There is love tragedy, and betrayal all set in Art Deco period. I loved it!! I was so sorry when I got to the end!
    It was fabulous xx

  2. I just finished watching Mr Selfridge seaon 4 which is also the final season. I haven’t actually watched the first 3 but was so excited to get to review Mr Selfridge. I now have to back track and watch the rest, if they’re as good as the finale it’s certainly worth watching. This isn’t the type of series I’d normally choose but enjoyed it! They’ve managed to put a bit of everything into this season, stacks of drama, love, betrayal, a wedding, baby, death … omg !
Jeremy Piven just owns his role as Mr Selfridge and watching him walk out the doors in the end was hard to watch….waaahhh. Like all good series I got a little to invested haha.
Thank you for the review Beauty & Lace ! I love my book reviews but this was great to mix things up . Mwah x

  3. Not having watched the first 3 series I was worried I would be a little lost in the story but this DVD gave a great background and catchup on the previous series…. From the period setting to the wonderful costumes this story was amazing! It had all of the goods to create an inspiring setting to easily carry off the drama that ensured surrounding Mr Selfridge and the other characters. Often a movie can have too many plots which make it hard to follow but this movie flowed at a good rate leading the viewer to stay tuned till the end. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants to get lost in a good story for both the mind and the eyes…… The chose very charismatic characters that took the characters and made them very believable and carried the roles to perfection. Thank you for the opportunity to review this movie.

  4. I loved watching Mr Selfridge i have never watched this series before, can’t wait for the next series to come out., This DVD had all the Glamour of the roaring 20’s, Fashion, Romance, Murder, and the ups and downs of Mr Selfridge, himself. I thoroughly enjoyed watching these series, and would highly recommend you watch it.

  5. Thank you for the chance to review Mr Selfridge series 4. I love this series from the acting to the costumes. Jeremy Piven is amazing in the title role as are all the other actors.

The series had everything from drama, an extreme of a wedding and a death.
I love the fashion of the time and how elegant the ladies were.

It is a series that would suit ages ranging from young to old. I am sad to see it is the last series as I would have loved more series. I highly recommend this series it was very enjoyable.
