User Review: Delicious

Delicious is a four part TV series starring Dawn French, Emilia Fox and Iain Glen which recently aired on ABC1. The show did so well that it has already been renewed for a second season and has just released on DVD.

Delicious stars Vicar of Dibley’s Dawn French, Game of Thrones star Iain Glen and Emilia Fox of Silent Witness.

Dawn French plays passionate cook Gina, who was once married to Iain Glen’s character, Leo Vincent, a successful entrepreneur, chef in Cornwall. Leo’s success is largely thanks to Gina’s exceptional cooking but after he leaves her for the glamorous Sam, played by Emilia Fox, his business continued to thrive.

Sam confides in Gina when she is suspicious that Leo is having an affair, she is confident that Gina will recognise the signs. Secrets and scandals begin to see the light leaving Sam and Gina trying to fix their broken families. Can they build a friendship or will they tear each other apart?

Delicious is an honest and compelling story of love, lies, and betrayal, where things are never as they seem.

Thanks to Acorn Media we were able to get a copy of the DVD to ten of our Beauty and Lace Club members to review. We look forward to hearing what they think in the comments below.

  1. My copy of Delicious on DVD arrived and I was really excited to start watching it. I was not aware of any of the actors in the series other then Dawn French who I think is so wonderfully funny and due to her part in the series I had expected it to be a laugh a minute type series. I was very wrong. Delicious is not a comedy although there are a few chuckles here and there. Delicious takes us into the life of Leo and all the people who are attached to him and make up his life such as his wife of just over 20 years who just happens to be his second wife. His ex and first wife Gina who is now a “friend” of Sam…the second wife. Leos children. Teresa his daughter with Gina and his son with Sam. Plus all the other people that have had an impact on their lives over the years.
There are lots of wonderful twists and turns and many moments where my jaw would drop with surprise. This series will keep you wanting more right u[ until the end and beyond. I wish there was more and im sad I reached the end of the DVD.
There are laughter and tears and I felt that I could see everyones side and where they were coming from. For me there was no villain that I disliked. I liked all the characters.
It is hard to explain to anyone exactly what this series is about without giving away events in the series. What I can say is that I was very much taken by surprise and so thrilled that I got to view this DVD. It was amazing and one that I will watch again. I really cant imagine anyone would say that they didnt enjoy it. Its one of those that you start watching with a feeling of being unsure if you are really going to be into it but very quickly you find that you dont want to hit the pause button but you just have no idea what might happen next.
Highly recommended and would be brilliant for a girls night in or rainy weekend viewing. That said I do feel that its not just for us girls and guys would enjoy this series also.

  2. Delicious is the first DVD I have been lucky enough to be chosen to review. Thankyou Acorn Media and Beauty and Lace.
Delicious was filmed in Cornwall, using the Pentille Castle on the banks of the River Tamar as the “Penrose Hotel” The scenery is absolutely beautiful.

The characters, Leo Vincent (Iain Glen, Game of Thrones and Clever man) is the owner and chef at the Penrose Hotel.
Gina Benelli ( Dawn French) is his ex wife who lives nearby with their 20 year old daughter Teresa.
Sam Vincent (Emilia Fox Silent Witness) is his current wife, they have an 18 year old son Michael.
Mimi Vincent ( Sheila Hancock) t is Leo’s mother and she lives with them.
    A really top cast!

It is hard to not give away the story, as the surprises keep you enthralled!
Leo and his first wife Gina came to the Penrose to start their dream business. A hotel, B&B / wedding venue with an amazing food experience.
However Leo has an affair with Sam (who was the manager) and Gina becomes his ex and Sam is the current Mrs Vincent.
The problem for Leo is that he has “stolen” all his amazing recipes and ideas from Gina his ex wife.
Another problem for Leo is that Sam suspects he is having an affair with the current manager.
So this is the story of this interesting and slightly crazy family! There is love, lies, sex, betrayal and great food!
It is a drama with some dark humour! It will keep you enthralled. I absolutely loved it.
I am excited that Sky has renewed the show for a second series. I will definitely be watching that!

  3. I was lucky enough to be chosen to review this DVD and like “meedee” I had not heard of any of the actors except Dawn French who does not look anything like I remember her. Set in Cornwell the series consists of four episodes revolving around a successful chef/restaurant owner named Leo who left his wife Gina for glamourous Sam. Sam confides in Gina as she feels Leo is having an affair and secrets & scandals are revealed. This sets the scene for twists and turns akin to a daytime soap that keeps you guessing and wanting to keep watching.
The backdrop of Cornwell is beautiful and it’s refreshing to have a culinary feel in a drama. This drew me in more as food and cooking is a passion of mine. I have to say the dark humour at times did not grab me but all in all I did enjoy it. Dawn French is wonderful in her role and stands out in every scene she’s in. Coupled with the mouth-watering food on offer it’s perfect for a girls night in with some good food and wine! I’m delighted there will be a “second course” and can’t wait for series 2.

  4. What a great short series – secrets, scandal, love, infidelity and lots of good food in a family drama with lots of twists and turns.
I really enjoyed watching this series and highly recommend it. It is 4 episodes so easily watched which I did on a cold wet winter’s afternoon with a hot chocolate and a plate of home cooked bickies.

Leo Vincent a celebrity chef has it all – a beautiful wife, Sam (Emilia Fox, from Silent Witness) a wonderful hotel business in Cornwall and a great love for food. Unfortunately Leo just can’t keep away from his ex wife, Gina who is a great cook and is played by the magnificent Dawn French. I don’t want to give too much away but there is a death in the first episode and this is where it gets very interesting. What will happen with the hotel and where is all the money that was supposedly made from the successful hotel business ???

The series is set in beautiful Cornwall, and the scenery is, as you can imagine, just lovely .

Leo narrates events as the series explores the strained family relationships between Sam and Leo, Gina ad Leo and their children. Sam and Leo’s son, Michael and Gina and Leo’s daughter, Teresa are close step siblings. There is also lots of intrigue and drama between these two young adults who have a father in common.

There is so much going on in this little community that you can’t help liking, disliking and wanting to strangle a few characters but the storyline is good and it is never boring!

I hope a Series 2 is coming soon as I’d love to continue the journey of Leo and his families.

  5. What a wonderful series. The first 10 min had me nervous thinking it was going to be peopled with stereotypical characters but that was most definitely not the case. It is layered upon layers and becomes more fascinating and intriguing. The acting is quite spectacular.
    The premise is covered already.
It’s a very brave script where the characters rise to the challenge of being human with some intriguing secrets. It’s funny, disturbing, accurate, hopeful.
The scenery is majestic and the dishes glorious looking.
I will actually watch it again now I know where it leads.
    Highly recommend.

  6. I’ve just spent the day watching the DVD of Delicious. I knew the actors as I have seen them in previous drama shows that I have watched plus who doesn’t know Dawn French. I’m not usually a big fan of Dawn French but actually really liked Dawn’s character in this series.

The four part series follows the lives of Gina, her ex husband Leo and his now wife Sam. Each lady has a child from Leo, who are now teenagers. Let the games begin here.

I found the series to be amusing with lots of surprises, lies and of course drama with its twists and turns. I would hate to have the kind of drama that was in this show but I love watching others have this drama in their lives. There are classic laughs along the way and of course serious expectations that happen along the way.

After the second episode I was totally hooked and wanted to just keep watching to see how it all panned out.

There was one part of a lot of frontal nudity shown but blink and you could miss it.

The picturesque scenery is beautiful as well as the buildings that are shown.

I have heard that there is going to be a second series and I will be watching for sure.

Thank you Beauty & Lace and Acorn – you have kept me entertained today.

  7. Thanks for the opportunity to watch this can I say “Delicious” series
Slightly worried at the beginning but once into it I found it very enjoyable with such wonderful food fantastic scenery that only Cornwall can supply & great characters played by such great actors the story captures you from beginning to end only concern I have is that now all the secrets are out what will season two bring or are there more secrets to unfold.

Thank you Beauty & Lace & Acorn

  8. Thank you Beauty and Lace for the invitation to review this DVD. I was pleasantly surprised since I knew Dawn French was in the cast and expected a hilarious comedy.

It has comedy, drama and many twists and turns. The series centres on Gina and her ex husband Leo and their daughter Teresa who is twenty years old. Also Sam who is the current wife of Leo and their son Michael who is 18 years old.

The series is set in Cornwall and the scenery is absolutely beautiful. There is food, cooking and of course drama in the community. Add a crazy family to the storyline as well.

Leo narrates in the series which is something I like as I find it gives more information for the viewers. I enjoyed this series very much, I laughed and shook my head many times.I highly recommend this DVD for everyone to watch.

  9. First I must say is I CANT WAIT FOR MORE

When my DVD arrived I was really excited to get stuck into it, I planned to watch one episode per night, it was so addictive that I watched all 4 episodes in one sitting.

I have never seen any of these actors before but id heard the name Dawn French a lot and wow was I impressed. The acting was absolutely on par for the story line

As for the story, Whoa- from watching the trailer I though “I guess this could be interesting, lets see where this goes” I found the story of Leo, his two loves, two children and his incredible passion for food and the way he ran his hotel to be so captivating. Full of twists, shocks and a bit of humor I was fully immersed in his story. Towards the end of the 4th episode I literally found myself sitting on the edge of my seat

Watch this and I guarantee you will not be disappointed

  10. Delicious is a feast for the senses in so many ways.

Leo Vincent runs a successful hotel in Cornwall and his unique style has made him renowned in all corners of the world.

His ex wife Gina (Dawn French), a fabulous cook and passionate foodie, is having issues with their 20 something daughter who seems to have an eating disorder.

Then there’s Sam, his current wife, the health fanatic who likes to keep a slender figure and adores their only son.

But all is not as it seems.

Leo is having an affair, his children have their own issues and Sam seems to frequent her counsellor more often than not.

With gorgeous Cornish scenery, delectable food woven throughout the story and meaty characters with more than a few secrets up their sleeves, Delicious has me hooked!
