Friday November 18th will see the annual Northcote Independent Fashion Festival event NIFFTY held at the Northcote Social Club. This event celebrates fashion as the ultimate form of self expression and the fashions are showcased by Melbourne musicians.
NIFFTY is a one night only show in which eleven separate acts perform in clothes from High Street Stores, they are clothes that can be bought at discounted prices in those same stores. Solange Mardones is the NIFFTY coordinator and fashion stylist that will be styling each of the performers.
The last 6 years has seen Solange Mardones work through various roles in the fashion industry as a stylist, boutique manager, sales/brand manager and consultant in the Australian fashion industry so she knows her stuff and she thinks Melbourne fashion is unique, interesting and beautiful.
Mardones is particularly interested in the relationship between other creative industries and fashion, especially music and fashion. She sees the relationship as one of constant evolution and inspiration. They feed off of each other with the tastes in one inspiring the other in a fascinating two way street of creation. This year’s NIFFTY event will be a combination, created by Mardones, of High Street Northcote’s eclectic fashions with local artists to produce a thoughtful and inspiring show that covers many different styles.
Gossling is slated to headline the event accompanied by Melbourne artists Andrew Cox of The Fauves, Georgia Fields, Jen Cloher, Angie Hart, The Wolfgramm Sisters, Duke Batavia (Ben Birchall) and more. The all star NIFFTY house band features Pete Luscombe (RockWiz & Paul Kelly’s Band), Ash Naylor (Even), Dan Luscombe (The Drones) and Bill McDonald (Paul Kelly’s Band). The host of the evening will be Melbourne media personality Clem Bastow.
