The title of this album immediately makes me think we’re talking about a greatest hits CD, collecting a little bit of everything that’s been released to paint a picture of her career to this point. That would be a totally incorrect assumption, but a great argument for not judging a book by it’s cover (or an album by it’s title).
This is an album that showcases the range and quality of Blige’s voice and it’s ability to transport you, it captures the broad range of her style from soulful ballads with a haunting quality to the music all the way through to hip-hop and R&B. The album has received mixed reviews though they have been generally favourable.
Mary J. Blige teams up again with long time collaborators Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and Babyface and features some big name musicians on some of the tracks.
Featured on My Life II are the talented vocals of Nas on Feel Inside, Brook Lynn on Midnight Drive, Busta Rhymes on Next Level as well as Drake on Mr Wrong, Rick Ross on Why, Diddy and Lil Wayne on Someone To Love Me (Naked) and Beyonce on Love a Woman.
My Life II is the tenth studio album from Mary J. Blige and she has received many awards throughout her career including the World Music Legends Award for combining hip hop and soul in the early 1990s.
I can’t compare this to earlier Blige material because I am not familiar with it, what I can say is if you are a fan of Blige and looking for a wide range of moods and styles then you will love it.

My blurb went missing… so now I have to bring you a new one. One that is a little broader too.
I devour books, vampires and supernatural creatures are my genre of choice but over the past couple of years I have broadened my horizons considerably.
I inhale music, hair metal that satisfies my inner bogan is where my musical passion lies, but again I’ve been exposed to lots of different music I wouldn’t normally listen to and have broadened those horizons also.
In a nutshell – I love to write! I love interacting with a diverse range of artists to bring you interviews.
Perhaps we were perfect before – I LOVE WORDS! Reading, writing, speaking, listening – if it’s got words I’m there!
