I want to go see Mary Poppins, I am not sure how else to start this review. I have had the CD on repeat for the last couple of hours and the songs are making themselves at home in my head; and I think they plan to stay for a while.
This whole CD is reminiscent of the childhood love of Mary Poppins the movie (which I now want to go out and buy and I want my kids to grow to love.) The score is not exactly that of the classic Disney movie and there are some brand new songs but the feel is definitely classic Mary Poppins.
Mary Poppins, The Supercalifragilistic Musical is presented in Australia by Disney and Cameron Mackintosh. Currently enjoying a stage run in at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne until 1 April 2011 it then heads to Sydney for a strictly limited season at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney.
But back to the CD, it was felt on opening night in 2010 that the show was something special. It was decided at the time that it would be a great idea to harness the magic and channel it into a CD as a permanent reminder of how the show grew and evolved since it’s first run (and cast recording) in London in 2005. They certainly succeeded.
The Original Australian Cast Recording came from recordings of the show over five nights in it’s second week with Melbourne audiences supplying enthusiastic applause. The sound is vibrant and upbeat and really captures the emotion they perform with live. 15 hours of master recordings went to London to have the absolute cream of the performances mixed and edited to create this CD.
Anyone fortunate enough to see this show live will be able to walk away with an original recording as a keepsake that will enable them to pull out the memories and literally replay them.

My blurb went missing… so now I have to bring you a new one. One that is a little broader too.
I devour books, vampires and supernatural creatures are my genre of choice but over the past couple of years I have broadened my horizons considerably.
I inhale music, hair metal that satisfies my inner bogan is where my musical passion lies, but again I’ve been exposed to lots of different music I wouldn’t normally listen to and have broadened those horizons also.
In a nutshell – I love to write! I love interacting with a diverse range of artists to bring you interviews.
Perhaps we were perfect before – I LOVE WORDS! Reading, writing, speaking, listening – if it’s got words I’m there!
