Hayden Calnin is a 22 year old singer and song writer who produces his own songs at home, his music has been compared to Bon Iver and James Blake. His latest single, For My Help, follows on from his debut single Summer and is included on Hayden’s debut EP City which will be available July 20th.
Hayden’s style has been described as progressive folk. I can’t speak for the rest of his material but For My Help combines quite a diverse range of heartfelt vocals that scale the range from slow falsetto, meandering husky low tones and belted out raw lyrics from the depths.
Influenced by a wide range of artists, and genres, Hayden puts it all together to produce a style of music all his own – honest, emotional folk edging into progressive.
Hayden Calnin has recently toured with Matt Corby, Gossling and Mat McHugh. Prior to that he began building a noteworthy list of achievements including radio play on X FM in London, a performance at the APRA Song Summit in 2010 and a finals spot on the Telstra Road to Discovery which led him to a performance at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2011.
Hayden Calnin performs live every Monday in July at the Toff, Melbourne so get in and check him out if you can.
The ‘City’ EP Launch will take place at The Workers Club in Melbourne on Friday August 24th.
