COMING SOON: The Hobbit

The excitement for the blockbuster of the summer season is growing and fans of The Hobbit across the world were treated to the online debut of a theatrical trailer for the movie on September 19, coinciding with Tolkein week.

Tolkein Week was something I had previously been unaware of so I thought I’d share a little about what I learned. The trailer debuted on the 19th of September, as part of the week long celebrations encompassing the 75th anniversary of The Hobbit novel’s publication and worldwide celebration of Hobbit Day.

The novel was published on September 21, 1937 so the activities on the 21st will relate to the 75th anniversary of publication. Hobbit Day is Saturday September 22, marking the birthdays of both Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, the heroes of The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings.

The Hobbit was originally released 75 years ago and it has never been out of print, the new movies will bring Tolkein’s characters to a whole new generation of fans, and I would hope a resurgence in popularity of the books.

The Lord of The Rings became a trilogy of movies and in the same fashion The Hobbit will also be made in three installments, and it will see many of the actors who appeared in The Lord of The Rings returning to reprise their roles in The Hobbit.

This video gives you some interesting information about the movie so take a look, I’m glad I did. And on that note I am off to track down the theatrical trailer.
