Classic American literature from almost a century ago, give or take a decade, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The book, and movie, are set in New York but most of the filming took place in our very own Sydney.
The first trailer was released on the 22nd May to start building the excitement for this Baz Luhrman extravaganza reminiscent of Moulin Rouge and Romeo + Juliet. It has been updated to appeal to a modern audience and part of this new appeal is the music of Kanye West and Jay-Z.
Releasing the trailer got me excited that this movie would be out much earlier than is actually the case. Just in time for the Oscars season The Great Gatsby will be released in America on December 26 and we will have to wait until January 10, 2013.
The sets, the colours, the scenery all look extravagant and eye catching – like the list of stars that have come together to make Luhrman’s vision for Fitzgerald’s book a reality.
Leonardo DiCaprio takes on the lead role of Jay Gatsby with a star studded cast playing the supporting roles. Joel Edgerton takes on Tom Buchanen and Tobey Maguire steps into the role of Nick Carraway. Carey Mulligan plays Daisy Buchanen and Australia’s own Isla Fisher was cast as Myrtle Wilson.
If you love period drama and you love Luhrman then this may just be your movie of 2013. Check out the trailer and see what you think.
My blurb went missing… so now I have to bring you a new one. One that is a little broader too.
I devour books, vampires and supernatural creatures are my genre of choice but over the past couple of years I have broadened my horizons considerably.
I inhale music, hair metal that satisfies my inner bogan is where my musical passion lies, but again I’ve been exposed to lots of different music I wouldn’t normally listen to and have broadened those horizons also.
In a nutshell – I love to write! I love interacting with a diverse range of artists to bring you interviews.
Perhaps we were perfect before – I LOVE WORDS! Reading, writing, speaking, listening – if it’s got words I’m there!
